Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write my plays up for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!
I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season is listed in my bio. On the year, I recorded 150 wins and 107 losses for a gain of +31 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite play for Tuesday.
Drew Smyly (CHC) under 4.5 Ks (-128)
Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.
My favorite play of the day is fading 32-year old Drew Smyly. He has bounced from team to team during his 8-year career and will be making the first start of his season with the Chicago Cubs. Smly will match up against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who he started against twice last season as an Atlanta Brave. He recorded 7 and 4 strikeouts in those meetings, but the Pirates will be starting almost an entirely new lineup today that features 8 right-handed batters.
The Pirates are hitting .423 against left-handed pitchers to start the season and should get to Smyly early. In 6.1 innings pitched during spring training, Smyly allowed 5 earned runs and struck out 8 batters. The Cubs had a day off yesterday and are coming off a series against the Brewers where they did not use too many bullpen arms.
