Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write my plays up for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!

I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season is listed in my bio. On the year, I recorded 150 wins and 107 losses for a gain of +31 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite play for Saturday.

Jose Urquidy (HOU) under 3.5 Ks (+105)

Balls will be flying out of Houston tonight as two of the best offenses go head-to-head. Last night, future hall of famer, Justin Verlander, struck out 5 batters across 6 innings versus the Toronto Blue Jays. That was Verlander’s lowest amount of strikeouts in a start so far this season.

Jose Urquidy was hit hard in his last start versus the Seattle Mariners. Urquidy allowed 6 earned runs through 4.0 innings and only struck out 2 batters.

I see Urquidy struggling again today, as he is pitching against a top offense against righties. The Blue Jays not only rank in the bottom half in strikeout rate to righties but they’re top 10 in major hitting categories, as well. They are hitting over .250 and rank in the top 5 in slugging.

The 26-year old has been maxed out at around 70 pitches in his first 2 starts this season because of control issues and allowing plenty of base runners. Toronto is scoring close to 3 runs in the first 5 innings, which ranks top 10 in the majors. If the Blue Jays can make Urquidy uncomfortable early, I expect his leash to be short.
