Jacksonville Jaguars 2022 NFL season recap
Coming into the 2022 season, the Jaguars were an unknown commodity, and it showed in the fact that Jacksonville was 7-1 to win the AFC South. However, a terrific second half of the campaign turned the entire outlook of the season around, as the Jaguars grabbed the division title by knocking off the Tennessee Titans at home in chaotic fashion. From there, Trevor Lawrence led the biggest comeback in the history of the NFL playoffs as Jacksonville rallied from down 27-0 to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers during Wild Card Weekend last January. 2022 was a year of near-unprecedented improvement for the Jaguars, so what can they do now that there are expectations placed upon them? We’ll have to wait to find out.
Jacksonville Jaguars 2023 NFL season predictions
Jacksonville is a fascinating team to handicap this season. As I mentioned, this was a team that easily outperformed expectations last season in the first year of Doug Pederson’s tenure. Now in Pederson’s second year as head coach, I expect another leap forward from the defending AFC South champs, who only got better over the offseason thanks to their additions in the NFL Draft and bringing back Calvin Ridley into the wide receiving room. I’m pretty bullish on the Jaguars chances to replicate their success from the season prior, so let’s get into my best bet.
Best bet: Jacksonville Jaguars over 9.5 wins (-140)
While the Jags do play in the far superior AFC, their schedule is extremely manageable by the standards of the conference, with their only difficult road games coming against the Bills, Browns and Steelers. What also makes the Jags worth a play at this number is the general weakness of the AFC South. Outside of the Titans, the rest of the division is extremely suspect and Jacksonville should be favored in all 4 games against the Colts and Texans. Furthermore, if an already-older Titans team gets hit with the injury bug like they did in 2022, the Jaguars should coast to a division title. It all starts with the quarterback position. If Trevor Lawrence can take another step forward, a 10-win season and even a deep playoff run is well within the cards in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Jaguars season record prediction: 11-6
The Jaguars schedule is very favorable, as they draw the NFC South in addition to their own division. I have Jacksonville penciled in for a 5-1 record in the AFC South, plus wins over the Buccaneers, Panthers, Falcons and Saints. That’s already 9 wins and they still catch the Ravens, Bengals and 49ers at home. Road games against the Steelers and Browns won’t be easy, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Jacksonville could split that pair of contests. Even factoring in losses to the Chiefs and Bills, I still have the Jaguars finishing with a record of 11-6. It’s entirely possible that this record would be good enough to land the #2 seed in the AFC, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Jaguars won the AFC South and clinched a playoff berth with relative ease.
