Devils ML (+150)
The Carolina Hurricanes dominated Games 1 and 2 in Raleigh, while putting the New Jersey Devils into an 0-2 series hole. However, as the series shifted to Newark for Game 3, those old bad feelings seeped in for the ‘Canes. They just cannot seem to win on the road. Goaltender Frederik Andersen is 0-3-1 in the past 4 games, allowing a total of 19 goals in that span, including 3 goals in a double-overtime loss against the Devils in Game 3. The Hurricanes have slipped to 5-14 in the past 19 playoff road games while going 0-5-2 in the past 7 games since April 4 in Detroit during the regular season.
The Devils scored a total of just 2 goals in Raleigh in the 2 games. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom has kept the Devils in this series, and he was sharp in Game 3 with 27 saves on 29 shots in the 3-2 win in double overtime. The 3 goals were the most scored in the series for New Jersey, and it was a rare time Carolina was out-shot. The win on home ice snapped a 4-game skid at Prudential Center, too. The Hurricanes are a completely different team on the road, and until they prove they can regularly win away from Raleigh, it’s worth backing the Devils.
Under 5.5 (-135)
All 3 games of this series have stayed under the total, and Game 4 could be more of the same. Markstrom has looked great, as he owns a strong .929 save percentage to go along with a 2.08 goals-against average so far in this series. Andersen has also been solid, as he boasts a .943 save percentage and 1.48 goals-against average. He has had his struggles on the road, but look for Carolina’s defensive game to put together a better performance in front of him. The Hurricanes were out-shot 37-27 in Game 3, which is very un-like head coach Rod Brind’Amour’s team. Carolina prides itself on controlling the game from a defensive standpoint and limiting high-danger chances for the opposition. Look for this one to be another low-scoring affair.
Logan Stankoven Over 1.5 shots on goal (-165)
As previously mentioned, don’t be surprised if Carolina wins the shots on goal battle in this one. The Hurricanes are at their best when getting key contributions from their depth forwards, and Logan Stankoven is the perfect example of that. Stankoven scored 2 goals in the series opener to lead Carolina to a 4-1 win. He fired 4 shots on goal in that contest, before firing just 1 in Game 2 and then put 2 shots on goal in Game 3. After not finding the back of the net in Games 2 and 3, he will be hungry to make an impact in Game 4. Stankoven is tied for third on the Canes with 7 shots on goal so far in this series, and we just need 2 from him for this leg to hit.
