The Philadelphia Eagles entered the 2022 season with high expectations, and it’s safe to say that those expectations were met and then some. Philadelphia waltzed through a weak NFC and cruised through its 2 playoff games to reach the Super Bowl for the first time since February of 2018, when the Eagles knocked off the Patriots 41-33. After bowing out in the Wild Card round of last season’s playoffs, Jalen Hurts and company have taken a major step forward and are looking to capture their second Super Bowl in the last 5 seasons.

How many times have the Philadelphia Eagles played in the Super Bowl?
With the win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, the Eagles will now be playing in their fourth Super Bowl in franchise history. This is also the second time in the last 5 seasons that Philadelphia is back on the NFL’s biggest stage, albeit with a much different cast of characters leading the way. The last time the Eagles played in a Super Bowl was in 2018 against the New England Patriots, in which Doug Pederson was the head coach and Nick Foles started at quarterback. Philadelphia previously played in Super Bowl 39 in February of 2005, losing to the Patriots on a last-second field goal. That game marked the Eagles’ first Super Bowl appearance since 1981.
How many times have the Philadelphia Eagles lost the Super Bowl?
Before the Eagles knocked off Tom Brady to win Super Bowl 52, this franchise had struggled in the Big Game. Prior to their championship, just getting to the Super Bowl had been a hardship for Philadelphia. In fact, the only other times the Eagles made in the title game resulted in losses. The first was Super Bowl 39 against those same New England Patriots, and previously it was Super Bowl 15 back in 1981. In that game, the Eagles fell to the Raiders 27-10 at the Louisiana Superdome.

Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl appearances
Prior to the 2 appearances in this recent era of Eagles football, Philadelphia previously made the Super Bowl in both 1981 and 2005. While they were defeated pretty handily in 1981 by the then-Oakland Raiders, the Eagles did come very close to securing their first Super Bowl victory against the dynastic New England Patriots 18 years ago. Philadelphia lost on an Adam Vinatieri field goal, and it would then take another 13 years for Philadelphia to get back to football’s biggest game. Having now qualified twice since the 2017-18 NFL season, the Eagles are shaping up to be one of the NFL’s premier organizations.
