Race 6 at Gulfstream Park is a $53,000 Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-olds over 6 furlongs on the dirt and one who can go well here is the debutante Free Smoke. Luis Saez’s mount is by dual Grade 2 winner Bucchero and looks ready to roll if recent workouts are anything to go by, so if there’s any market support for him then that would be a positive.
3:08 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 7) – Crowding Out 6/1 (1-star play)
A field of 8 females go to post for this Claiming contest which is being run over a 5-furlong trip on the turf course and I like the chances of the mare in stall 6, Crowding Out, who has won in this grade and looks set to go well again. Kelly Breen’s charge has finished in the first 2 in 4 of her 8 starts and I like her position towards the outside gates, where she can stalk the pace and kick on in the stretch under Paco Lopez.
3:37 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 8) – McMoney 4/1 (2-star play)
Cheryl Winebaugh’s McMoney has shown a good level of consistency in recent starts and this colt went close in his latest start at this course, which was in the same Starter Optional Claiming company as this but over a slightly shorter trip. He had a wide trip and got up late for the show on that occasion, so if he can get a better run through the field this time he should be finishing best of all over this distance.
4:06 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 9) – Our Country 10/1 (1-star play)
The finale at Gulfstream Park is an open looking $35,000 Starter Optional Claimer in which a case can be made for a fair few in this field — but none more so than Our Country, who won a Claimer over course and distance last season and has enough ability to win this at double-figure odds. He is due another win and recorded his best speed for a good while when second in a similar event to this last time out, so it all points to a big effort here.
