4:34 pm Saratoga (Race 7) – Landbiscuit 8/1 (1-star play)
Race 7 at Saratoga is a competitive $60,000 Claiming contest for the older generation and one who can go well is the gelding in gate 12, Landbiscuit, who has been knocking on the door in recent starts. David Donk’s charge has notched up form figures of 322 from his last 3 runs in this grade, so there is every chance he can hit the board at a good price.
5:10 pm Saratoga (Race 8) – Lone Rock 7/2 (2-star play)
A field of 7 goes to post for the Birdstone Stakes in which the William Cowans trained Next will likely take plenty of beating but I like the multiple stakes race winner Lone Rock who won this race back in 2021. This evergreen 8-year-old was also third in this last season and if he can run close to his Grade 2 winning form then he could take some stopping on his return to Saratoga.
5:44 pm Saratoga (Race 9) – Dripping Gold 7/2 (2-star play)
The penultimate event is a hotly contested Allowance Optional Claimer over a mile and three-eighths on the inner turf track and a case can be made for many in this field but none more so than Dripping Gold. Tyler Gaffalione’s mount won his maiden here and the general feeling is that there is more improvement to come from him which is frightening considering how well he has been running in recent outings at this level.
6:18 pm Saratoga (Race 10) – Charging 4/1 (2-star play)
Brad Cox’s Charging is an unexposed son of Candy Ride and he could make good strides this year, having made his debut back in February. He took 3 attempts to break his maiden when doing so by a widening 6 lengths at Keeneland in April, which came before a seventh placed effort in a stakes race at Belmont Park. That race came too soon for him and he can continue his progress dropping back into Allowance class.
