4:26 pm Saratoga (Race 8) – Gunite 8/5 (2-star play)
The Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap has been won by some star sprinters down the years and this year will be no exception as Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Elite Power and multiple stakes race winner Gunite do battle in what promises to be a great race.
Elite Power will take some stopping but Gunite is a tough performer who we have yet to see the best of at this six furlong distance so it would not surprise should he upset the likely odds on favourite.
5:02 pm Saratoga (Race 9) – Diamond Hands 5/1 (1-star play)
This is a highly competitive female Allowance in which a case can be made for many of the runners in this field and I like the chances of Todd Pletcher’s Diamond Hands who has good form here and has been knocking on the door in this grade in recent starts.
She was running on well over seven furlongs when second at Belmont Park last time out and this extra furlong should be ideal.
5:45 pm Saratoga (Race 10) – Forte 7/5 (2-star play)
Brad Cox saddles three of the five strong field in the $500,000 Jim Dandy Stakes but they will all have to go some to beat the superstar in the making, Forte, who is using this as a prep run for the Travers next month.
Last year’s champion Juvenile has the Breeders’ Cup Classic as his main aim this campaign and he will be very tough to beat off the back of an excellent second behind Arcangelo in the Belmont Stakes.
6:19 pm Saratoga (Race 11) – Kerry 6/1 (1-star play)
A field of fourteen fillies and mares are set to go to post for the finale at Saratoga which is an open looking five and a half furlong Allowance on the turf and one who can go well is the filly in gate seven, Kerry.
Luis Saez’s mount will find this task easier having finished down the field in a stakes event last month and she will run a big race if settling into a prominent position early.
