4:26 pm ET Saratoga (Race 7) – Tax Implications 5/1 (1-star play)
The Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes is a hotly contested affair for the 3-year-old filly division and I like one of the Chad Brown trained runners in gate 4, Tax Implications, who is lightly-raced and should have plenty of improvement in her.
After winning in her debut at Monmouth last season, she has notched up 3 2nd-placed efforts in stakes races, improving her speed figure with each run, and she looks a Grade 1 horse in the making.
5:02 pm ET Saratoga (Race 8) – Nostalgic 3/1 (2-star play)
Race 8 at Saratoga is a valuable Allowance Optional Claiming event with Gerrymander and Movie Moxy to be feared but William Mott has a contender who will be very tough to beat in Nostalgic.
Junior Alvarado’s mount picked up the Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct last campaign and he’s a winner in this grade so I see no reason why he cannot win this after an impressive workout at this course.
6:19 pm ET Saratoga (Race 9) – Wet Paint 2/1 (2-star play)
Brad Cox’s Godolphin filly, Wet Paint, lines up in the $600,000 Grade 1 Alabama Stakes and she can join the long list of star fillies who have won this prestigious race.
She had a rough trip when closing from the rear to finish 4th in the Kentucky Oaks and has since shown her tenacious attitude to get the better of the reopposing Sacred Wish in the Grade 1 American Oaks at this course and I fully expect her to back that up.
5:10 pm ET Saratoga (Race 10) – Whisper Not 9/2 (1-star play)
A field of 14 older horses are set to go to post for this mile Allowance Optional Claimer on the turf track and there’s an ex-British trained gelding who looks set to run a big race in Whisper Not.
Brendan Walsh’s charge has a bit of class about him and he was a winner at Saratoga last time out, so if Tyler Gaffalione can get into a good position early from stall 5 then he could be tough to beat.
