4:29 pm ET Saratoga (Race 7) – Topic Changer 4/1 (2-star play)
Race 7 at Saratoga is a $50,000 claiming contest over a mile and 1/16th on the turf and I like the chances of Topic Changer, who has an unexposed profile and broke his maiden over 9 furlongs at Belmont Park on his penultimate start.
This son of Flintshire won that race in impressive style and, although he disappointed on his first Saratoga start last time out, he is still one to follow for the time being.
5:05 pm ET Saratoga (Race 8) – Proven Strategies 8/1 (1-star play)
A field of 10 older horses is set to go to post for Race 8 at Saratoga, which is the Lucky Coin Stakes over an extended 5 furlongs on the turf and this is an open race with preference for Mark Casse’s gelding in stall 3, Proven Strategies.
He’s a course winner who has been running consistently well in stakes races of late so it should be only a matter of time before he gets his head in front again and this looks to be a good opportunity for him to do that.
5:39 pm ET Saratoga (Race 9) – Wicked Halo 5/1 (1-star play)
The penultimate contest at Saratoga is the Grade 2 Prioress Stakes which features 10 very promising 3-year-old fillies and the Gun Runner filly Wicked Halo can make it 5 wins from 9 starts for Steve Asmussen and his team.
This good filly has won her last 2 starts in stakes races by a combined distance of 7.5 lengths and it will take a Grade 1 class filly to beat her.
6:13 pm ET Saratoga (Race 10) – Conquist 3/1 (2-star play)
John Kimmel’s Conquist has yet to win from 4 starts but he is steadily improving and recorded his highest speed figure to date when finishing 4th at this course last time, so he has every chance of breaking his maiden today.
He finished 2nd last time but was demoted to 4th after causing some interference. If he can run to that level again he should go close, especially with more improvement to come.
