Here are our best bets for today’s action at Saratoga.
4:18 pm ET Saratoga (Race 7) – Artorius 7/2 (2-star play)
Race 7 at Saratoga is the $135,000 Curlin Stakes over a mile and 1/8th on the dirt which features many unexposed colts and I like the chances of the Chad Brown-trained Artorius.
This Juddmonte-owned son of Arrogate finished well when he was 2nd over 6 furlongs in his debut at Keeneland in April before returning to score over a mile at Belmont Park last month. He is an exciting colt who will be suited by this step up in trip.
4:56 pm ET Saratoga (Race 8) – Xy Speed 8/1 (1-star play)
Michael Maker’s Xy Speed is a 9-time winner, 2 of which were in this allowance optional company, and this speedy gelding has every chance of gaining a 10th win in this $120,000 contest over an extended 5 furlongs on the turf.
He has finished off the board in his last 2 starts, but both of those were in stakes company, so if jockey Tyler Gaffalione can get into a prominent position from stall 2 he should go close.
5:32 pm ET Saratoga (Race 9) – On The Hill 9/2 (1-star play)
The penultimate race at Saratoga is an open-looking $70,000 starter allowance over 6 furlongs on the dirt in which a case can be made for many but the gelding in stall 5, On The Hill, could take this one.
He’s a winner over 6 furlongs and comes into this off after a couple of 2nd-placed efforts in this grade. If he can improve from those, which isn’t out of the question as he’s lightly-raced, then he can have a big say.
6:08 pm ET Saratoga (Race 10) – Maybe Later 2/1 (2-star play)
A field of 16 fillies and mares is set to line up for the finale at Saratoga, which is another $70,000 starter allowance, but this time we are on the turf track over a distance of a mile and 1/16th and Maybe Later should be tough to beat.
This daughter of Not This Time has gone close in a higher grade than this, so if she runs close to her best then she should have a great chance.
