1:35 pm Saratoga (Race 2) – T Max 1/1 (3-star play)
Showed a good level of ability in winning her first 2 starts at 2 years old, including when making all to score by 5 lengths in a 7-furlong allowance optional claimer at Churchill Downs last September. The daughter of Connect has failed to shine in her 2 most recent starts, including in a $30,000 claimer over 7 furlongs at Ellis Park. The filly gets an easier contest here and is taken to debut for the Linda Rice barn with a win.
2:39 pm Saratoga (Race 4) – Stunningly 2/1 (2-star play)
The daughter of Gun Runner was a $675,000 purchase as a yearling in 2021 and while a fourth is the best she could manage in her two starts at two she has shown improved form in finishing runner-up in each of her last 2 starts. The most recent of those saw her suffer a two length defeat over 7 furlongs here last month and she is taken to break her maiden at the sixth time of asking.
3:12 pm Saratoga (Race 5) – Nobel 5/2 (2-star play)
The 4-year-old showed good form in handicap company in Europe including when two-and-three-quarter-lengths fourth in an 18 runner contest at York last month. Nobel was purchased for $135,787 by current connections subsequently having won impressively on the synthetic track at Newcastle on his penultimate start. The son of Lope de Vega looks capable of registering a third career victory on his first start for Brendan Walsh who can boast an impressive 29% strike-rate (4 of 14) at this meeting.
4:20 pm Saratoga (Race 7) Costa Terra 9/5 (2-star play)
Trained by Linda Rice, the colt showed a liking for this venue when delivering a two-and-a-half-length victory in a mile-and-a-quarter allowance contest here last month. The son of Gun Runner led in the straight prior to being overhauled late on when a neck second over the same track and trip subsequently. Jose Lezcano, on board last time out is again in the saddle and he looks capable of steering the 4-year-old to victory dropping back slightly in distance.
4:58 pm Saratoga (Race 8) – No Nay Mets 7/5 (2-star play)
The colt has impressed in both starts in the US including when drawing five-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals in the Tyro Stakes over five furlongs on a good surface at Monmouth Park. The son of No Nay Never had suffered his only defeat when ninth in the Grade 2 Norfolk Stakes over the same trip at Royal Ascot the previous month. The colt sets the standard on form and can add to trainer George Weaver’s 7 winners at this meeting.
