3:30 pm ET Santa Anita (Race 1) – Sareeha 6/5 (2-star play)
Sareeha showed good form to place twice in Ireland, including in a 7-furlong maiden at Leopardstown in June last year. She has placed 2nd on all 3 starts since joining the Graham Motion barn, most recently when beaten 1 3/4 lengths over a mile and 1/16th at Del Mar in November.
Given a break since that effort, she should appreciate the extra 16th today and is taken to get off the mark at the 7th attempt with Flavien Prat, on board the last twice, riding again.
3:59 pm ET Santa Anita (Race 2) – Havnameltdown 6/5 (2-star play)
Winner of 3 of his 4 starts, the Uncaptured colt suffered his first defeat when runner-up in the 7-furlong Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity at the start of September. He returned to the winner’s enclosure with a triumph in the Grade 3 Bob Hope over the same course and distance at Del Mar in November.
He represents a top trainer in Bob Baffert and, following a good 59-second 5-furlong work, is selected to resume with a victory.
4:29 pm ET Santa Anita (Race 3) – Sonoran 4/5 (3-star play)
Purchased for $230,000 as a 2-year-old at the Ocala Bloodstock Sale last year, the Bob Baffert-trained colt Sonoran made his debut in a 6-furlong maiden special weight at Santa Anita just over a month ago. He was beaten 2 3/4 lengths into 2nd on that occasion but is expected to have improved for the run.
He looks capable of breaking his maiden at the second attempt to help jockey John Velazquez improve on his 16% strike-rate (7/43) at this meeting.
