The Mick Ruis Sr.-trained gelding has been the model of consistency so far in 2023 finishing on the board in all 8 starts he has made this year. Those efforts include 2 victories — most recently when taking an allowance optional claiming race over a mile on turf at Santa Anita in April. Talklessworkmore debuted for current connections and — having returned with a second over a mile-and-one-sixteenth here at the start of last month — he is taken to register a victory here.
6:00 pm Santa Anita (Race 5) – Thermal 5/2 (2-star play)
The 2-year-old showed up well in a couple of maiden special weight contests at Del Mar including when debuting with a fourth in a five-and-a-half-furlong contest at the end of July. The step up to 2 turns proved no issue with Thermal finishing four-and-a-half-lengths third in a mile maiden special weight at the end of August. The filly boasts good form and looks capable of helping trainer John Sadler improve on his 29% strike rate (2 for 7) at this course.
8:00 pm Santa Anita (Race 9) – Hamwood Flier 3/1 (2-star play)
The filly showed ability in her 4 starts in Ireland in 2021 including when taking out a handicap contest over 7 furlongs at Naas in June of that year. She has been lightly-raced since with her sole victory coming in this race 12 months ago. The daughter of Kodiac subsequently performed with credit when leading prior to fading in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar and she looks up to making a winning seasonal debut.
