Suffered a one-and-three-quarter-length defeat when runner-up in the mile-and-one-eighth Grade 1 Awesome Again here at the start of October. Frankie Dettori, on board at Meydan returns to the saddle and having shown good form here in the past the Tonalist, entire looks capable of delivering a fifth career success.
5:35 pm ET Santa Anita (Race 8) – Midnight Memories 5/2 (2-star play)
The winner of four of her five starts to date, the daughter of Mastery registered a first stakes success when taking the Grade 3 Torrey Pines Stakes over a mile on the main track here in early September. She followed up with an impressive three-and-a-quarter-length triumph in the Grade 2 Zenyatta over a sixteenth further at this venue the following month. She comes into this race fresh and with a good draw looks up to registering a first Grade 1 success.
6:39 pm ET Santa Anita (Race 10) – Taiba 6/5 (2-star play)
Victorious in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby over a mile-and-one-eighth here in April the pick has shown good form at the top level since disappointing in the Kentucky Derby in May. Never really involved when finishing well to claim third behind Flightline in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic over a mile-and-a-quarter last month. Drop in trip should prove no issue and comes into this contest on the back of a string of impressive works at this venue.
