Horse Racing picks for Santa Anita race track on Friday, March 11: Fury Kap fits the bill

Horse Racing

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Friday, including at Santa Anita Park race track. We have been in fine form with our picks for a long time, and are up 253.95 units dating back to August 5.

Here are 4 runners we expect to perform well today. It’s time to dive in and discuss these potentially profitable plays.

5:34 pm ET Santa Anita (Race 5) – Mad Catter 4/1

Race 5 at Santa Anita is a $22,000 Claiming contest over an extended 5 furlongs on the dirt surface and I like the gelding drawn down on the rail, Mad Catter, who broke his maiden tag at the 8th attempt last time out and can follow that up.

He had hit the board on multiple occasions prior to that win over course and distance and he can make all under Diego Herrera, who was in the saddle for that victory.

6:06 pm ET Santa Anita (Race 6) – Fairy Cakes 8/1

A field of 8 is set to line up for Race 6 at Santa Anita, which is a competitive race on paper and a chance is taken on Leonard Powell’s Fairy Cakes, who is trying Lasix for her US debut.

She showed a good amount of ability when trained by Eve Johnson Houghton in the UK, and if she can transform that form to America then she should go well in this $69,000 Allowance Optional Claiming event.

6:38 pm ET Santa Anita (Race 7) – Fury Kap 5/2

The penultimate race at Santa Anita features a small but select field for this $43,000 Claiming race and preference is for Fury Kap, who won in this grade last time out and can win again going up in trip.

John Sadler’s gelding is 2 from 3 lifetime and did well to win last month as he’d been off the track since September 2020, so a fair bit of improvement can be expected from that effort and he can win this.

7:11 pm ET Santa Anita (Race 8) – Tiz Plus 10/1

Mike Puype’s Tiz Plus finished a close 3rd in a Grade 3 over this course and distance of a mile on the turf last Summer and if he brings his A game he can be the one they all have to beat in Race 8 at Santa Anita.

He’s a consistent 6-time winner who always runs a good race and he has a nice draw in stall 2, so there’s plenty going for him and he should go close in the finale.
