4:21 pm Presque Isle Downs (Race 4) – Closethegame Sugar 8/5 (2-star play)
The son of Girvin has shown plenty of ability in his four starts to date winning two of his first three outings including by half-a-length in the five-and-a-half-furlong Listed Mahony Stakes on a firm turf course at Saratoga on his penultimate start. The three-year-old followed that up with a four-and-three-quarter-length fourth in the Grade 2 Franklin-Simpson Stakes over a furlong further at Kentucky Downs earlier and having gone well here in the past he looks up to taking this contest.

The five-year-old has shown good form in five starts since joining the Jonathan Thomas barn including when winning by a head in an allowance over a mile at Kentucky Downs at the end of last month. The son of Ghostzapper had been racing in Graded company prior including when contesting the Grade 1 Turf Classic at Churchill Downs three starts back. Florent Geroux’s mount has won three of his four synthetic surface starts and can improve on that record here.

The filly is the winner of seven of her nine starts to date including all five starts since joining the Christophe Clement stable. Those efforts include a Grade 3 victory in the Caress Stakes over five-and-a-half-furlongs on turf on her penultimate start and a Listed victory over the same track and trip subsequently. The four-year-old has shown a liking for this venue in the past and with Irad Ortiz booked to ride she looks capable of continuing her winning run
