5:00 pm ET Penn National (Race 1) – Lavery 9/5 (2-star play)
The 6 -year-old Lavery delivered a fair 4.75-length fourth in a $7,5000 claimer over a mile at Parx 3 starts back. He failed to shine on turf at Monmouth Park subsequently prior to a 20-length 5th when slightly slowly away on a wet fast track at the same venue.
Well drawn 2 off the rail today, he should fare better dropping down to $4,000 claiming company on his first start at this track and Manuel Aguilar’s mount looks up to registering a victory.
5:30 pm ET Penn National (Race 2) – Gratitude Attitude 7/5 (2-star play)
This son of Mosler showed good form at a higher level when trained by Ronald Levine earlier this year, including when 2 lengths 2nd over this track and trip in February. He made just 1 start for Carl O’Callaghan, finishing runner-up over 5.5 furlongs when contesting a $10,000 claimer in April.
He has joined a good stable now and usually races from off the pace. Without a recent work he comes here fresh and is taken to double his career tally.
6:00 pm ET Penn National (Race 3) – Heartyconstitution 8/5 (2-star play)
A maiden special weight winner at Oaklawn Park in February last year, this filly registered her first victory since when scoring by 1.25 lengths in an allowance over an extended mile on turf at Fair Grounds in March.
She followed up at Churchill Downs when taking out an allowance optional claiming contest on the main track early last month and comes here on the back of a 47.20 4-furlong breeze looking to record a first stakes victory.
7:45 pm ET Penn National (Race 6) – Major Dude 8/5 (2-star play)
The 3-year-old Major Dude has shown good form this year, finishing on the board in all 4 starts, including when winning the Grade 3 Kitten’s Joy over an extended mile on turf at Gulfstream Park in early February.
He has performed well in Graded company since, including when half-a-length 3rd in the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs 4 weeks ago. He sets the standard on form and looks capable of providing trainer Todd Pletcher with a winner.
9:12 pm ET Penn National (Race 9) – Bowl Of Cherries 8/5 (x-star play)
Bowl Of Cherries missed the rest of 2022 following a 2nd-place finish in a Santa Anita allowance optional claimer in March. She changed stables following that effort but failed to shine when a disappointing short-priced favorite on her first start for trainer David Jacobsen.
She demonstrated improved form when a head 2nd in a course-and-distance allowance contest at this track last month. The booking of Irad Ortiz takes the eye today and the mare is taken to record a 6th career win.
