There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Saturday, including at Oaklawn Park race track. We have been in fine form with our picks for a long time, up 244.15 units dating back to last August. In 2 races on Friday we nailed 1 winner, and it came at +350 odds.
Here are 5 runners we expect to perform well today. It’s time to dive in and discuss these potentially profitable plays.
2:10 pm Oaklawn Park (Race 3) – Icy Stare Down 2/1
Showed plenty of ability when finishing five lengths third having challenged three wide in a five-and-one-half-furlong maiden special weight at Churchill Downs in November. The track was rated good that day and the daughter of Frosted got off the mark upped to this trip on a muddy track here the following month. Hails from a top yard and having drawn the rail looks capable of doubling her career tally with John Velazquez taking the ride for the first time.
3:10 pm Oaklawn Park (Race 5) – Secret Oath 3/2
D Wayne Lukas’ charge was a maiden special weight winner at Churchill Downs last October and she has appreciated the switch to this venue winning her two starts here by a combined fifteen-and-a-half-lengths. The most recent of those victories came in the Martha Washington Stakes over this trip at the end of last month. Had today’s rival Optionality back in second that day and she is taken to register a second stakes success and complete a hat-trick in the process.
4:13 pm Oaklawn Park (Race 7) – McLaren Vale 9/5
Off the mark at the first attempt when making all in a Santa Anita maiden special weight over six-and-one-half-furlongs at the end of December the selection showed good form when placing third in a five runner renewal of the San Vicente Stakes over seven furlongs at the same venue last month. The selection advertised his wellbeing with a 59 second five furlong work at Santa Anita last weekend and he can take this racing on lasix for the first time.
4:45 pm Oaklawn Park (Race 8) – Quick To Blame 9/5
Placed on all three previous starts Brad Cox’s colt has placed second at this track in his last two starts including when beaten four lengths over this trip last month. Had previously been beaten a head in a course and distance contest on a muddy track and with a good draw in two and a top jockey in John Velazquez up the Gary & Mary West-owned colt can break his maiden at the fourth time of asking.
6:22 pm Oaklawn Park (Race 11) – Newgrange 9/5
Bob Baffert’s colt can maintain his unbeaten record and advertise his Derby credentials with a third Graded victory in this eleven runner event. The selection tracked the pace on his first start at this venue when taking the Southwest Stakes over this course and distance at the end of last month. Had today’s rivals Barber Road and Ben Diesel among those in behind that day. Can confirm that form having made all in the Sham Stakes at Santa Anita prior.
