There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Saturday, including at Keeneland race track. We are in fine form with our picks, having profited 107.55 units dating back to Aug. 5. Here are 5 runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races on Saturday. It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.
3:40 pm Keeneland (Race 6) – Golden Pal 4/5
A winner at the highest level in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint last November the three-year-old completed a hat-trick when making a winning seasonal debut in scoring by three lengths in the Grade 3 Quick Call Stakes over five-and-one-half-furlongs at Saratoga in July. Struggled when finishing mid-field in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes over five furlongs at York (UK) in August but looks well suited to this event and can return to winning ways under John Velazquez.
4:12 pm Keeneland (Race 7) – Bell’s The One 7/5
Bidding to complete a hat-trick following two victories over an extended six furlongs when finishing runner-up in a minor contest at Churchill Downs last month. Had previously taken out a Grade 2 contest at Saratoga at the end of July and while there was no obvious excuse for that Churchill Downs reversal she showed that effort has left no ill effects when delivering a 47 second four furlong breeze at the same venue earlier this month.
4:44 pm Keeneland (Race 8) – Althiqa 7/2
Winner of a Group 2 contest over a mile in Dubai earlier this year the daughter of Dark Angel has won in Grade 1 company on her two most recent starts including by three-quarters-of-a-length in the Diana Stakes over one-mile-and-an-eighth at Saratoga in July. Usually ridden from off the pace and the presence of frontrunners La Signare and Blowout should ensure she has a solid pace to run at with Jamie Spencer in the saddle for the first time.
5:15 pm Keeneland (Race 9) – Classic Causeway 5/1
Impressed when making a winning debut in making all the running to score by six-and-a-half-lengths under today’s rider Jose Ortiz in an eight runner maiden special weight contest over seven furlongs-and-forty-yards at Saratoga early last month. Has delivered some solid efforts in the mornings since including a five furlong work in one minute flat at Churchill Downs a week ago he looks capable of maintaining his unbeaten record stepping up in trip and grade for trainer Brian A Lynch.
6:20 pm Keeneland (Race 11) – Giant Game 4/1
The son of Giant’s Causeway was a fairly expensive yearling purchase when bought for $500,000 at Fasig-Tipton last year and he shaped as if he’d improve for the experience when slowly away in a seven-furlong-and-forty-yard maiden special weight at Churchill Downs on debut last month. Finished five-and-a-half-lengths third on that occasion and with the step up in distance likely to suit Dale Romans charge is taken to get off the mark at the second time of asking.
