Horse Racing picks for Keeneland race track on Friday, October 8: All in on Family Man

Santa Anita Horse Racing on Dirt

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Friday, including at Keeneland race track. We are in fine form with our picks, having profited 100.15 units dating back to Aug. 5. Here are 5 runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races on Monday. It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.

1:00 pm Keeneland (Race 1) – Sum Kinda Pretty 7/5

Built on some promising efforts when registering a one-and-a-quarter-length victory in a maiden claimer over a mile-and-one-eighth on the main track at Saratoga at the end of July. Below that form when finishing only ninth on her first start in open claiming company over a sixteenth shorter on turf at the same venue subsequently. Return to dirt and drop in grade can see her return to the winners’ enclosure with Joel Rosario booked for the ride.

2:10 pm Keeneland (Race 3) – Family Man 1/1

The winner of three of his four previous starts the son of First Defence completed put a third place finish in a mile allowance at Ellis Park back in August when racing close to the pace prior to going on to score by two-and-a-quarter-lengths in a starter allowance over a mile-and-one-sixteenth at Churchill Downs last month. The four-year-old has Tyler Gaffalione in the saddle once more and is taken to register a fourth career success.

2:45 pm Keeneland (Race 4) – Town Classic 5/2

The veteran recorded a seventh career success when taking a claiming event at Belmont Park at the start of July. Has been competing at a higher level since that victory including when fifth in a minor stakes contest, the Karl Boyes Stakes over six furlongs on the all-weather at Presque Isle Downs in August. Can return to claiming company with a victory following an impressive 47 second breeze over four furlongs at Belmont Park earlier this month.

5:10 pm Keeneland (Race 8) – Special Reserve 9/5

Completed a stakes race double earlier this year including when taking the Grade 3 Maryland Sprint Match Series Stakes at Pimlico in May. Followed up with a Prairie Meadows triumph in the Iowa Sprint Stakes over six furlongs and duly delivered a career best figure in finishing runner-up in the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap at Saratoga at the end of July when last in action. Can prove hard to beat dropping in grade for trainer Michael Maker.

5:45 pm Keeneland (Race 9) – Juju’s Map 5/2

Showed plenty of ability when runner-up in a maiden special weight at Ellis Park in July and duly went one better than delivering a big figure in winning by five-and-three-quarter-lengths in a mile maiden special weight at the same venue at the start of last month. Represents the powerful Brad Cox yard stepping up to Grade 1 company and having drawn the rail she looks capable of registering a second career success with Florent Geroux in the saddle.
