A $180,000 purchase as a yearling at the Keeneland September sale back in 2020 the pick delivered a highly promising third when making his belated debut in a 6-furlong maiden special weight on a good main track at Oaklawn Park in February. Comes into this contest on the back of a number of solid 5-furlong workout at the Arkansas venue and returning from a short break looks capable of scoring at the second time of asking.
2:04 pm Keeneland (Race 3) – Margoinabubblebath 3/1 (2-star play)
Built on some promising efforts in maiden special weight and $50,000 maiden claiming company when winning by three-and-three-quarter-lengths in a six furlong $30,000 maiden claimer at Fair Grounds last month. Subsequently claimed by current connections, the daughter of Midnight Storm looks the most obvious pace angle here having raced from the front last time out. The selection remains open to improvement and with Corey Lanerie keeping the ride she is taken to complete a double stepping up half-a-furlong in trip.
3:40 pm Keeneland (Race 6) – Inventing 8/5 (2-star play)
Delivered a one-and-a-half-length victory in a maiden special weight over this course and distance last October and has placed on both starts in allowance company subsequently. The most recent of those came when one-and-three-quarter-lengths third having raced prominently in an allowance optional claiming contest over a mile at Gulfstream Park when making her seasonal debut last month. The return to this venue is a positive and she can help Todd Pletcher improve on his 22% strike-rate (2-for-9) at this venue.
4:44 pm Keeneland (Race 8) – Chi Town Lady 9/5 (2-star play)
A 3-time winner the most recent of those triumphs came when springing a surprise in coming from off the pace to deliver a one-and-a-half-length victory in the Grade 1 Test Stakes over 7 furlongs at Saratoga last August. Delivered a respectable effort when five-and-three-quarter-lengths sixth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint over 7 furlongs here last November. Wesley Ward’s charge has Joel Rosario up and looks up to returning to the winners’ enclosure.
5:15 pm Keeneland (Race 9) – Modern Games 3/5 (3-star play)
The winner of 7 of his 13 previous starts registered his third victory at the highest level when delivering a three-quarters-of-a-length victory in the Breeders’ Cup Mile over this course and distance in early November. Ships in from Europe for this contest and with top jockey William Buick on board for each of all but 1 of his previous starts again in the saddle, the 4-year-old looks capable of making the perfect start to his 2023 campaign.
