1:08 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 3) – Mama Maria 6/5 (2-star play)
Mama Maria has demonstrated a good level of ability in 3 starts at this track, including when runner-up, beaten 3/4 of a length in a track-and-trip maiden special weight on her penultimate start. She followed that with a 2nd-place finish in a $50,000 maiden claiming event.
A rail draw today is a positive given she tried to make all last time out and with similar tactics expected the daughter of Girvin is taken to provide jockey Jose Ortiz with a winner.
1:38 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 4) – Extendo 2/1 (2-star play)
Extendo made an impressive start to his racing career when delivering a 7 3/4-length victory in a 5 1/2-furlong $35,000 maiden claiming contest at this rack at the start of October. He disappointed when fading into 5th over the same course and distance in an allowance optional claimer there the following month.
He drops markedly in grade today and looks up to doubling his career tally for Carlos A David following a 48-second 4-furlong work at Palm Meadows Training Center earlier this month.
4:04 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 9) – Short Circuit 5/2 (2-star play)
Short Circuit built on a couple of 2nd-place finishes when winning by 1 1/2 lengths in a mile $20,000 starter optional claiming event at Gulfstream Park in October. He put in fair efforts in two subsequent starts including when 5 lengths 6th in a similar contest at the track last month.
He was bumped at the start on that occasion and may have finished closer to the leaders but for that incident. He gets a drop in grade for this contest and is selected to register a second victory at this venue.
