There is plenty of great horse racing across America on Thursday, including at Gulfstream race track. We have been in fine form with our picks for a long time now and we are up +234.42 units with our race selections to our recommended stakes dating back to August 5, 2021. We hit a 2/1 and 5/2 winner on Tuesday and were up +6.5 units overall on the day’s picks. Let’s keep it rolling!
Here are our best bets for today’s action at Gulfstream race track.

2:38 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 6) – Firing Bullets 5/1 (1-star play)
Race 6 at Gulfstream Park is a competitive $86,000 Allowance Optional Claimer over an extended 7 furlongs on the turf and one who can go well here is the Mark Casse trained filly in stall 10, Firing Bullets, who won a stakes race at Woodbine last October. That stakes win was a hard fought one and, although she has disappointed in this grade since, I doubt we have seen the best of her with this step up in trip expected to suit.
3:08 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 7) – Mr. Bouma 3/1 (2-star play)
We switch to the dirt now for this Claiming event over 7 furlongs, which is for older horses who have never won 2 races so this could be a tricky one to solve but Mr. Bouma — who has been contesting much better races than this — is taken to strike for Dale Romans and his team. This son of Candy Ride is returning off an 8-month lay-off but that may have done him the world of good, as he had slightly lost his way and if he can replicate his top speed figures then he will go very close in this.
3:37 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 8) – Backchat 5/1 (1-star play)
A field of 8 older horses go to post for the penultimate contest at Gulfstream Park and I like the chances of Backchat, who is drawn in the outside post but can overcome that wide draw under jockey Edgard Zayas. Both of his 2 victories have been at this course and he comes into this Allowance Optional Claiming event off the back of a comfortable win in Claiming company last month, so it would not surprise should be back that up given the form that he is in.
4:06 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 9) – Best Defense 5/2 (2-star play)
The finale is one over a sprint trip on the all-weather track which features 8 three-year-old colts and geldings lining up in for Maiden Optional Claiming honours and one who can take the winners’ purse is Best Defense. Irad Ortiz Jr’s mount was keeping on for fourth in a hotly-contested Maiden Special Weight at Aqueduct back in October, so with improvement to come from that run he should put in a big effort in the finale.
