2:40 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 6) – Duchossois 12/1 (1-star play)
Race 6 at Gulfstream Park is a Claiming contest over an extended mile on the all-weather surface and one who can go well here is Duchossois, who comes into this off a low weight. Jockey Jaime Torres takes off a handy weight allowance and this seven-year-old has been knocking on the door in recent starts, so all looks set for a big effort from stall four.
3:13 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 7) – Scarlet Stripe 4/6 (3-star play)
A field of seven fillies and mares go to post for this $86,000 Allowance Optional Claiming event in which the stand-out candidate is the Brendan Walsh-trained Scarlet Stripe, who is a daughter of the Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Gun Runner.
Tyler Gaffalione’s mount has only had four starts to date. She broke her maiden on her penultimate outing before finishing a very good third in a hotly contested Allowance at Churchill Downs. With a similar effort here, she should win.
3:44 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 8) – Sweet Enough 7/1 (1-star play)
This is another Allowance Optional Claimer for the female division in which a case can be made for a fair few in this field, but none more so than the ex-British trained Sweet Enough, who is having her third start across the Atlantic and is coming along nicely.
She showed a good level of form in the UK whilst managing to reel off three straight wins last Summer and I am expecting her to put up a big effort here, as she is more than capable of winning at this level, especially now that she is getting used to this different style of racing.
4:14 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 9) – Sweet Actress 14/1 (1-star play)
Tamara Levy’s Sweet Actress is a two-time winner at Gulfstream Park and has hit the board on a couple of occasions here, and she looks set to go well again in the finale which is a Claiming race over an extended mile distance.
This is an open race but this front-runner won a similar contest to this back in September, so if she can get out of the gates and across onto the rail from stall nine then she can certainly finish in the money at double-figure odds.
