4:36 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 9) – Far Bridge 5/2 (2-star play)
Race 9 at Gulfstream Park is a hotly contested $86,000 Allowance Optional Claiming event for 3-year-olds and I like the chances of Christophe Clement’s colt in stall 9, Far Bridge, who beat a nice horse in Carl Spackler over course and distance in January.
He showed a tenacious attitude to get the better of that horse by a head and Carl Spackler went on to win impressively next time, so Far Bridge should take plenty of beating.
5:06 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 10) – Gangly 9/2 (1-star play)
A field of 8 is set to go to post for this Allowance Optional Claimer over an extended 6 furlongs, which is an open race on paper, so it may be worth taking a chance on Gangly, who is a 6-time course winner.
Peter Walder’s 6-year-old beat a hotpot in Avant Glory on his penultimate start in this grade and he is ideally drawn in gate 4, so if Jesus Rios can get out and into a prominent position early then Gangly should run a big race.
5:35 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 11) – Poseidon’s Passion 12/1 (1-star play)
Poseidon’s Passion has an impressive record of 10 wins from 29 starts and she has every chance of making that 11 from 30 in the 5-furlong Captiva Island Stakes.
She notched up a career-best speed figure when winning a handicap at this track last October and represents good value at big odds given that she showed that she remains in good form with an impressive workout last week.
6:04 pm ET Gulfstream Park (Race 12) – Joe Phillips 8/1 (1-star play)
The finale is a competitive Claiming contest over an extended 5-furlong trip on the all-weather surface and one who can go well is the gelding in the outside gate, Joe Phillips. He is a 2-time winner in this grade and will appreciate this drop back in trip.
He tired over a mile last time but still ran well to finish 4th and I can see Jorge Ruiz taking him back early on and coming with a late run in the stretch.
