Race 7 at Gulfstream Park is a $43,000 Maiden Optional Claiming contest for three-year-old Florida bred’s and this one can go to Smokin Bow who has finished second on two occasions from three starts at Gulfstream and can win at the fourth attempt. This son of Oxbow was disappointing last time out when finishing fifth in a Maiden Special Weight but he showed a very good level ability in two runs prior to that so I am prepared to ignore that last run and he should take the beating if running close to those second placed efforts.
4:11 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 8) – Designed By Kitten 5/2
Gerald Brooks’s Designed By Kitten brings a good level of form into this $24,000 Claiming event and she should be too good for her rivals here. Having won at Woodbine on debut she then went on to win in this grade, at this course, by an impressive four lengths which was over half a furlong more than this five furlong trip and if she turns up in the same mood here then she should win.
4:42 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 9) – Frankly My Dear 6/1
The penultimate race at Gulfstream Park is a competitive $54,000 Allowance Optional Claimer for the female division and I like the chances of the horse in stall four, Frankly My Dear, who, after nine attempts here and at the West course, finally broke her maiden tag at the tenth time of asking last time out and can now kick on from that. Having finished second on no less than six occasions prior, she was a comfortable two length victor over six furlongs and that should give her the confidence to win again.
5:14 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 10) – Archer Road 12/1
A field of nine are set to go to post for the tenth and final race at Gulfstream Park and it’s the joint oldest horse in the field, Archer Road, who can make best of his way home from the outside stall and win this $36,000 Claimer over a mile and a sixteenth. Juan Alvarado is a five-time winner at this course and, after being off the track for nearly two years, finished ninth in a Claimer last time out but should come on a good amount from that and can go well at a course he loves.
