Race 5 at Finger Lakes is a $17,300 Claiming event over an extended mile distance and I like the chances of Storm Afleet who should come on a good amount from a recent sixth placed finish at this course. This vastly experienced gelding is a two-time course winner, one of which was in this grade, and that latest effort was his first run for six months so he should come on fitness wise and make a bold bid for the winners’ circle.
3:25 pm Finger Lakes (Race 6) – Road To Royalty 3/1 (2-star play)
A field of nine are set to go to post for Race 6 at Finger Lakes which is a $32,100 Maiden Special Weight for the female division over six furlongs and this can go to Debra Breed’s Road To Royalty. She finished well over five furlongs here on debut last month, so with this step up in trip expected to suit and, with improvement expected, she is the one they all have to beat.
3:52 pm Finger Lakes (Race 7) – Forward Motion 3/1 (2-star play)
The penultimate race as Finger Lakes is another Claiming contest which features seven geldings, all of which are at least four years of age and it’s the joint oldest horse in this field, Forward Motion, who can land the spoils under Luis Perez. All of his seven lifetime victories have been away from this course but he did finish second in a similar event here on his latest outing so if he can replicate that then he has every chance of winning.
4:19 pm Finger Lakes (Race 8) – Another Image 5/1 (1-star play)
Beth Miller-Saul’s Another Image broke her maiden tag at the eighth attempt last time out here at Finger Lakes and now that she has got her head in front she can make it back-to-back wins in the finale. That was a comfortable two length win over six furlongs which would have given her lots of confidence and this drop back to an extended five furlongs should not be an issue as she showed plenty of speed that day and I am expecting a nice run from her.
