Has tried to make all on both starts to date with the most recent of those resulting in a one-and-a-quarter-length second in a six-furlong-and-eighty-yard maiden special weight here last month. Had previously debuted with a one-and-three-quarter-length second having been slightly slowly away in a seven-furlong-and-forty-yard contest at Churchill Downs in November. The son of Dialed In sets the standard on form and stepping up in trip he is taken to get off the mark at the second of asking.
4:25 pm Fair Grounds (Race 8) – Just Might 8/5
Michelle Lovell’s charge has shown a liking for this venue in the past finishing on the board in eight of his nine starts at the track. Completed a course double when making all to deliver a one-and-a-quarter-length victory in a course and distance stakes event on a firm track last month. Had previously taken a similar event over an extended six furlongs on the main track and the six-year-old looks up to completing a hat-trick on his 2022 debut.
6:20 pm Fair Grounds (Race 12) – Halo Again 6/1
Performed well on the main track in stakes company, including twice in Graded races at Woodbine last year and demonstrated a liking for turf when making a winning debut on the surface in taking a Listed stakes event over this course and distance last month. Made all from gate three on that occasion and the five-year-old Speightstown entire trained by Steve Asmussen looks capable of successfully employing similar tactics with Joel Rosario booked for the ride.
6:49 pm Fair Grounds (Race 13) – Midnight Bourbon – 6/5
Last years Lecomte Stakes winner on this card showed good form in Grade 1 company subsequently including when finishing runner-up in Pimlico’s Preakness Stakes last May. Put a non-completion after clipping heels at Monmouth Park subsequently behind him when finishing placed in three consecutive Grade 1 races including the mile-and-one-eighth Clark Stakes at Churchill Downs in November. Has shown good form in the mornings and can get his four-year-old campaign off to a winning start for owner Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC.
7:20 pm Fair Grounds (Race 14) – Epicenter 9/5
Although beaten when sixth at Churchill Downs in debut the son of Not This Time has registered victories on both subsequent outings including an impressive six-and-a-half-length triumph in the Gun Runner Stakes over this course and distance last month. Pressed the pace that day and had previously employed similar tactics when scoring over a mile-and-forty-yards in on a good dirt track in maiden special weight company at Churchill Downs. He can complete a hat-trick at the chief expense of Pappacap.
