Horse Racing picks for Delaware Park race track on Thursday, June 29: St Andrews should be to the fore

Scott Spieth atop Silverly Enough wins the eighth race of the day at Tampa Bay Downs.

There is plenty of great horse racing across America on Thursday, including at Delaware Park race track. We have been on fire with our picks for a long time now and we are up +246.33 units with our race selections to our recommended stakes dating back to August 5, 2021. Let’s keep it rolling!

Here are our best bets for today’s action at Delaware Park race track.

2:30 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 5) – Sullivan Street 5/1 (1-star play)

Race 5 at Delaware Park is an open-looking Maiden Claimer on the turf course and one who can go well is the filly in gate 3, Sullivan Street, who is a 13-race maiden but has been knocking on the door of late.

Mary Eppler’s 4-year-old has recorded form figures of 423 so far this year and if she can run to her best form then she will have every chance of breaking her maiden from an ideal post position.

3:00 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 6) – St Andrews 6/4 (2-star play)

A field of 6 is set to go to post for this competitive Allowance Optional Claiming event and they will all have to go some to beat course winner St Andrews.

This in-form son of Quality Road showed a tenacious attitude under today’s jockey Kevin Gomez to win a Starter Optional Claimer over 6 furlongs at Delaware Park last time out, while recording a career-best speed figure, so I wouldn’t want to be taking him on in this kind of form.

3:30 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 7) – Savvy Layla 8/1 (1-star play)

Savvy Layla is a vastly experienced gelding who has enough ability to have a say in this Starter Optional Claiming grade and I fancy him to go close on his second start at Delaware Park.

He’s a winner over a mile on turf, which this race is, and he should get a fast pace from which Kevin Gomez can weave his way through beaten horses and hit the board at a good price.

4:00 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 8) – Eldari 7/2 (2-star play)

The finale at Delaware Park is a $38,000 Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-old fillies and my attention is turned to debutante Eldari, who is trying Lasix for her debut outing.

Her sire, Collected, was a winner on debut and Brittany Russell’s charge should be fit and ready to go if recent workouts are anything to go by, so a bold bid is expected.
