Horse Racing picks for Delaware Park race track on Thursday, July 7: Snackster hungry for success

1:00 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 2) – Uncle Jerome 9/5 (2-star play)

Uncle Jerome has shown good form since joining his current stable from Michael E Gorham, winning 2 of his 3 outings including by 4 1/2 lengths in a $25,000 starter optional claimer over a mile on a fast Laurel track at the start of last month.

He was a good 2nd on a track rated good over a mile and 1/8th there subsequently and looks the most likely winner with Jeiron Barbosa up for trainer Claudio A Gonzalez, who has won with 2 of his 4 runners at this meeting.

2:00 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 4) – Snackster 2/1 (2-star play)

Snackster has won 2 of her last 4 starts, including when taking out a $6,250 claiming contest at Gulfstream Park in May on her penultimate outing. She placed 2nd when beaten 3/4 length having been unable to dominate over 5 1/2 furlongs on her first start at Delaware Park last month.

She proved she could be competitive in this company last time out and is taken to help trainer Victor Barboza Jr improve on his impressive 33% strike-rate (3/9) at this meeting. 

3:30 pm ET Delaware Park (Race 7) – Cannon’s Roar 2/1 (2-star play)

Cannon’s Roar placed 2nd when beaten a nose last year’s running of this race, held a little over 12 months ago. He has demonstrated some good form without winning since, including when half-a-length 4th in a stakes over a mile and 1/8th at Laurel Park last October.

He could finish only 6th over the same course and distance first up last month, but is likely to have improved for that effort and is taken to provide jockey Charlie Marquez with a winner.
