6:56 pm Churchill Downs (Race 5) – Takethesilver 4/1 (1-star play)
Race 5 at Churchill Downs is a Maiden Special Weight for two-year-old fillies and I like the Cherie Devaux trained Takethesilver who will come on a good amount from her debut run at Ellis Park last month.
She showed inexperience when finishing seventh over a seven furlong trip but a much better showing is expected this time around as both her sire and dam won here and this longer trip should suit.
7:25 pm Churchill Downs (Race 6) – Streaming Now 7/2 (2-star play)
Wesley Ward’s Sam’s Treasure is to be feared in this Allowance Optional Claimer but Streaming Now showed up well in a Grade 3 at Saratoga last time out and remains an exciting prospect for Paulo Lobo.
This daughter of Into Mischief showed plenty of speed when winning by three and three quarter lengths on debut at Ellis Park and is taken to burn off her rivals here.
7:54 pm Churchill Downs (Race 7) – Yamato 5/2 (2-star play)
A case can be made for many of the runners in this turf contest with the likes of English Tavern and Storm The Court having solid chances but it can pay to side with Yamato who will find this task much easier than recent assignments.
Florent Geroux’s mount has form figures of 41411 in this grade and will be very tough to beat if running close to his best form dropping back from Grade 1 level.
8:23 pm Churchill Downs (Race 8) – Midway Miracle 5/1 (1-star play)
The finale is a Claiming event for horses who have never won two races and Midway Miracle, who broke her maiden in determined fashion over course and distance two starts back, is taken to strike for Tommy Short and his team.
This four-year-old showed grit to reel in the short priced favourite King Of Kentucky on that occasion and with a similar effort he’ll go close.
