There is plenty of great horse racing across America today, including at Churchill Downs race track. We have been on fire with our picks for a long time now and after 3 winners at Saratoga on Friday we are up +303.49 units with our race selections to our recommended stakes dating back to August 5, 2021. Let’s keep it rolling!
Here are our best bets for today’s action at Churchill Downs.
1:53 pm ET Churchill Downs (Race 3) – Tepeu 5/2 (2-star play)
Tepeu placed 3 times on firm turf in maiden special weight races prior to making the switch to the main track when delivering a 7 1/2 length victory over a mile and 1/16th at this track at the start of last month. Racing prominently that day appeared to suit having been ridden with restraint in his 2 starts prior to that.
He remains open to improvement and looks up to doubling his career tally with Manny Franco in the saddle for the first time.
3:01 pm ET Churchill Downs (Race 5) – Family Way 3/1 (2-star play)
The Uncle Mo mare has demonstrated good form in Graded company in recent times including when scoring by 1 3/4 lengths in the mile-and-a-half Grade 3 Orchid Stakes at Gulfstream Park in April.
She placed second in both subsequent starts, including when chasing home the top-class War Like Goddess at Keeneland prior to a half-length defeat in the Grade 1 New York Stakes over a mile-and-a-quarter at Belmont Park. She can provide trainer Brendan P Walsh with a top-level success.
4:09 pm ET Churchill Downs (Race 7) – Sconsin Evens (3-star play)
Sconsin ended last year with a Listed victory in a stakes contest over this track and trip in September and made the perfect start to her 2022 campaign when delivering a 3/4 length success in the Grade 3 Winning Colors.
She had Joyful Cadence, who reopposes today, back in 2nd on that occasion while the daughter of Include had her main rival Bell’s The One back in 3rd when runner-up in the Grade 3 Chicago at this track last time out.
5:51 pm ET Churchill Downs (Race 10) – King Fury 2/1 (2-star play)
King Fury was disappointing on his 2 most recent starts, but he had excuses on each occasion, including when ending last year with a 5th in the Grade 1 Clark Stakes over a mile and 1/8th at this venue in November.
He found the all-weather surface against him when down the field in the Listed Kentucky Cup Classic Stakes in his seasonal debut in April and the return to a traditional dirt surface can see him score for trainer Kenneth McPeek.
6:25 pm ET Churchill Downs (Race 11, Arlington Million) – Smooth Like Straight 5/2 (2-star play)
Smooth Like Strait has demonstrated good form since delivering a 1 1/2 length success in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita in May last year. He has finished on the board in all 6 appearances since that top-level success, including when runner-up in the 2022 running of the same race.
The step up in distance is o issue having finished runner-up in a Grade 2 at this distance last July. He is taken to deliver a top-level victory with John Velazquez booked for the ride.
