5:43 pm Belmont Park (Race 6) – Clover Street 6/1 (1-star play)
Race 6 at Belmont Park is a competitive $80,000 Allowance for the female division over a 7-furlong trip on the dirt course and this can go to the filly drawn in the outside post, Clover Street. Mark Hennig’s charge has shown a good level of ability in 7 career starts and ran with great credit over 6 furlongs here last time out so if she can replicate that effort she has every chance with the extra furlong being sure to suit.
6:15 pm Belmont Park (Race 7) – Into The Sunrise 8/1 (1-star play)
A field of 9 older horses is set to go to post for this hotly contested Allowance Optional Claiming event in which Runningwscissors and Outlaw Kid are likely to take plenty of beating, but I like the chances of Into The Sunrise who has form figures of 12 at this venue. This gelding is a stakes winner who won in this grade at Gulfstream Park 3 starts back, so he is a big threat to the marker principals here.
6:45 pm Belmont Park (Race 8) – Uncle Moonlight 5/1 (1-star play)
Michelle Nevin’s Uncle Moonlight has some impressive form at Belmont Park and this son of Uncle Mo is taken to strike in this Allowance Optional Claimer. Kendrick Carmouche’s mount is a dual course and distance winner who has finished in the top 4 in all of his races since April 2021, so he is a consistent sort who should go well if he can get out of the gates and into a prominent position early on.
7:15 pm Belmont Park (Race 9) – Red Butterfly 9/2 (1-star play)
The finale is an open looking seven furlong Maiden Claiming contest in which a case can be made for a good amount of runners in this field, but none more so than Red Butterfly — who tries Lasix for the first time. Her debut second at Aqueduct last September is more than good enough to win this, so if connections have her fit and ready for her first start of 2023 then it would be disappointing should she not take the victory.
