Horse Racing picks for Belmont Park race track on Sunday, October 31: Hellman looks red hot

Horse racing at Belmont Park

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Sunday, including at Belmont Park race track. Here are 4 runners that we think are worth backing today.

Saturday was another winning day for our horse racing picks, with Noble Journey (8/5) a 3-star winner and The Important One (7/5) also hitting the line in front.

It’s time to dive in and take a look at some more potentially lucrative plays.

2:43pm Belmont Park (Race 5) – Hellman 8/1

A son of Empire Maker, Hellman cost an enormous $475,000 as a yearling and shaped with promise on his track and distance debut last month. He was off a step slowly that day and was caught six wide at the first bend, failing to threaten in a race in which the pace held firm. He’s entitled to improve from that debut effort and he’s drawn the inside rail, which is a positive. With natural progress, he can threaten at a big price under Joel Rosario.

3:15pm Belmont Park (Race 6) – Aunt Kat 8/5

Aunt Kat has been on a roll in 2021 for William Mott, progressing rapidly through the ranks. Graduating at the third attempt at Aqueduct in March, she quickly followed up with two allowance victories at Belmont before a narrow second in the Shine Again at Saratoga. That was a very good effort, as she was caught late on after setting the pace. She’s drawn well once again to use her high cruising speed and, receiving weight from her main rival, she can get back on the winning trail.

3:49pm Belmont Park (Race 7) – Wondrwherecraigis 8/5

Starting the year with a pair of allowance optional claiming victories at Pimlico, Brittany Russell’s Wondrwherecraigis has soared to new heights in 2021. He quickened up smartly from the front to win the Tale of the Cat at Saratoga in August and almost followed up in the Grade 3 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash, demoted from first after hanging late. He’s clearly on an upward curve and stretched out to seven furlongs, he can overcome a wide draw to make all the running.

4:21pm Belmont Park (Race 8) – Always Carina 3/1

Winning her opening two starts impressively, Always Carina battled on bravely to finish second in the Grade 2 Mother Goose at Belmont in June. She’s run below that standard in two subsequent starts, but she looks set to benefit from a drop back to seven furlongs here. She’s likely to take this field along and drawing gate one only furthers her case. Given that she does stay further, Jose Ortiz can give her an attacking ride and if she turns in first, she shouldn’t be coming back to them in the closing stages.
