Horse Racing picks for Belmont Park race track on Sunday, October 3: Make Annapolis your captain

On the Dirt

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Sunday, including at Belmont Park race track. We are in fine form with our picks, having nailed 74 winners in our last 182 races dating back to early August while profiting 97.7 units during this stretch. Here are 4 runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races on Sunday. It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.

2:36 pm Belmont Park (Race 4) – Annapolis 6/5

A daughter of War Front, she created a huge impression when circling the field on her way to a victory over this trip at Saratoga. The way she saw out the race suggested she has a very bright future and on the figures, she doesn’t have a huge amount to find with rivals who have already contested graded level. Pletcher’s runners are in great form at present and with similar comments applying to Irad Ortiz Jr, she’s an exciting proposition in the Pilgrim.

3:06 pm Belmont Park (Race 5) – Tommy Bee 9/2

Initially costing $400,000 as a yearling, this son of Medaglia D’Oro showed ability when sixth on debut at Ellis Park. He didn’t have the best of passages, stopped in his run at a crucial stage and he failed to regain that momentum when in the clear. He’ll have learned a lot from that effort and he’s entitled to improve plenty as a result. His recent work at Ellis Park has been pleasing and drawn well in gate two, he has an excellent chance of making it second time lucky.

4:44 pm Belmont Park (Race 8) – Beautiful Lover 9/2

My Sister Nat has been a consistent force at higher levels and warrants plenty of respect, but Beautiful Lover also has form in similar contests. She wasn’t beaten far in the Grade 1 Gamely at Santa Anita last summer and after a poor showing on return at Tampa Bay, she bounced back to something like her best with a game allowance victory at Belmont last time. She needs even more returned to graded level, but she’ll relish stretching out in distance and she remains lightly-raced for her age.

5:16 pm Belmont Park (Race 9) – Echo Zulu 3/5

Steve Asmussen’s daughter of Gun Runner is a very short price, but she warrants it and will take all the beating in this contest. A debut winner at Saratoga back in July, she took the step up to Grade 1 company in her stride by winning the Spinaway in impressive fashion. Given the way she saw out the seven-furlong trip, she should have no problem stretching out to the mile here. She has by far the best form on offer and it’s difficult to look past Ricardo Santana Jr’s mount.
