2:10 pm Belmont Park (Race 3) – Purple Hearted 3/1 (2-star play)
With no obvious pace rival in the field Chris J Englehart’s chance may get loose on the lead as was the case when taking a $40,000 claiming contest by seven-and-a-quarter-lengths at Aqueduct in January on his penultimate start. Unable to dominate in a starter allowance over the same course and distance subsequently the four-year-old was beaten sixteen lengths in finishing fourth of five that day. Capable of putting that disappointing effort behind him with Eric Cancel booked to ride.
4:18 pm Belmont Park (Race 7) – Equal Pay 7/5 (2-star play)
Stumbled and unseated her rider on debut at this venue in June last year and finished last of eight on a muddy Saratoga track over seven furlongs subsequently. Has shown improved form since that effort however following up a good second in a maiden special weight over seven furlongs at the same venue with a wide margin ten length success in a sloppy track allowance at Gulfstream Park on last months seasonal debut. Looks up to completing a double.
4:51 pm Belmont Park (Race 8) – Royal Flag 8/5 (2-star play)
Proven in Graded company having won three Graded stakes races last season including by four-and-a-quarter-lengths in the Grade 2 Beldame Stakes over a mile-and-one-eighth here in October. Followed that up with a close up fifth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff over the same distance at Del Mar the following month. Has demonstrated good form in the mornings of late and is taken to make a winning seasonal debut dropping in trip for top trainer Chad Brown.
