There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Saturday, including at Belmont Park race track. Here are 5 runners that we think are worth backing today. Yesterday’s 3 horse racing picks included 7/2 winner Brother Brad.
It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.
1:09pm Belmont Park (Race 2) – Noble Journey 8/5
Noble Journey has shown ability in all seven starts to date, including when dropped to a maiden claimer for the first time in finishing fourth over a mile-and-one-sixteenth at this track last month. That race was switched to the main track from the turf, but the son of Noble Mission’s best form prior to that had come on turf. Noble Journey delivered a good 48-second flat four-furlong breeze on the dirt training track last weekend and can break his maiden returning to turf.
1:41pm Belmont Park (Race 3) – Overstep 6/5
A $360,000 purchase as a yearling in September last year, Todd Pletcher’s charge made the perfect start to his career when winning by six-and-three-quarter-lengths in a six furlong maiden special weight here last month. Out of an Uncle Mo mare the selection is bred to appreciate this step up in distance and having shaped like a stakes winner in waiting on debut he is taken to maintain his unbeaten record with Irad Ortiz Jr. taking the ride once more.
2:13pm Belmont Park (Race 4) – Palace Gossip 1/1
Has shown ability on both starts to date, following up a second-place finish in a maiden special weight over six furlongs on turf at Aqueduct just under a year ago with a fourth-place finish over the same course and distance in a similar contest there in early December. She demonstrated her wellbeing with a number of recent breezes on dirt here and she can make a belated winning seasonal reappearance under jockey Eric Cancel.
3:15pm Belmont Park (Race 6) – The Important One 7/5
Completed an allowance optional claiming race double when scoring by one-and-three-quarter-lengths having raced from the front in a six furlong contest here earlier this month. Has proved that he is up to competing at stakes level in the past when third in a New York-bred contest at Saratoga in September last year and having delivered career-best figures in his two most recent starts the son of Majestic City can complete a hat-trick for trainer Steve Asmussen.
3:47pm Belmont Park (Race 7) – Velvet Sister 4/1
Has demonstrated that she can be competitive at this level when finishing runner-up twice in stakes contests since delivering a fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga in July. The front two drew well clear of their two rivals in a six-and-one-half-furlong contest at Saratoga on the first of those stakes starts and Jose Ortiz’s mount can go one better than when beaten eight lengths over half-a-furlong further here in the Joseph A Gimma Stakes subsequently.
