1:00 pm ET Belmont Park (Race 1) – Mischief Joke 8/5 (2-star play)
This son of Practical Joke defied his low purchase price when delivering a good 1 1/2 length 2nd in a 4.5-furlong maiden special weight contest at Keeneland when making his debut in April.
He has changed trainer since that effort, and coming into this contest off a 48.80 4-furlong work on the training track at Churchill Downs, he looks capable of breaking his maiden at the second time of asking with Jose Ortiz riding him for the first time.
2:01 pm ET Belmont Park (Race 3) – Win For Gold 5/2 (2-star play)
Win For Gold ended his time with Adam Rice with a 2-length success in a 6-furlong $25,000 claiming contest at Aqueduct in February.
The 5-year-old has finished on the board when attempting to make all on both starts for current handler Michelle Giangiulio, including when 4.5-lengths 3rd over in a $50,000 starter event over 6 furlongs at Belmont last month. The extra half-furlong today is no issue and the son of Goldencents is selected to defy a wide draw.
2:32 pm ET Belmont Park (Race 4) – Strong Odor 2/1 (2-star play)
This Strong Mandate mare has shown good form on turf, including when winning at Saratoga in August 2021. The 6-year-old has been racing on a synthetic surface at Turfway Park since finishing 4th over 6 furlongs in an allowance optional claimer over this trip at Aqueduct last October.
She heads into this event after a 6th place in an allowance optional claimer at Turfway Park and, dropping down in grade, can make a winning return to turf.
4:08 pm ET Belmont Park (Race 7) – Dontmesswithtess 1/1 (2-star play)
Michael Maker’s charge has shown good form in 2 starts since joining the handler following up a half-length 3rd in a $25,000 starter event over a mile on turf at Gulfstream Park with a half-length 2nd on the main track at the Florida venue in February.
She was scratched by the stewards ahead of an intended start at Aqueduct last month but has registered a couple of works since and is selected to deliver a win on her first start at Belmont Park.
4:40 pm ET Belmont Park (Race 8) – Squire Creek 7/5 (2-star play)
Squire Creek was purchased for $525,000 as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Select Yearling Sale at Saratoga in 2021. The son of Uncle Mo made a belated winning debut when making all to score by 6.25 lengths over 6 furlongs at Fair Grounds in March.
He followed up in an allowance optional claimer over the same trip at Keeneland last month and looks capable of maintaining his unbeaten record with regular pilot Florent Geroux up as he steps up to stakes company.
