There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Sunday, including at Belmont Park and Keeneland race tracks. We are still absolutely on fire with our plays, having profited 151.15 units dating back to Aug. 5–including 37.4 units over the past three days. Here are 4 runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races on Sunday. It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.
2:43 pm Belmont Park (Race 5) – Advise and Consent 2/1
A son of Tourist, he cost $145,000 as a two-year-old and created a good impression on his six-furlong Belmont debut last month. Having saved ground on the inside, he stayed on powerfully when asked for an effort in the stretch, finishing a promising second. Given his pedigree, he should relish stretching out to this trip and is entitled to have learned plenty from that pleasing introduction. With natural improvement, he should prove tough to beat.
3:08 pm Keeneland (Race 5) – Competitive Saint 5/2
Into the Sunrise is the class horse in the race, but he disappointed over track and distance last time and Competitive Saint can utilize his good draw to down the favorite. He’s won three of his eight starts, landing a $88,000 Allowance contest over track and distance last time. He did so in game fashion, despite spinning wide into the stretch, and he remains unexposed after a handful of starts. Drawn against the rail in gate one, he can lead them from gate to wire.
4:12 pm Keeneland (Race 7) – La Lune 7/2
Previously trained by Henry Candy in Britain, this mare was a triple winner, including a Grade 3 at Haydock back in May over today’s trip. She made her debut for Ed Vaughan in the Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon Stakes last month, missing out by just a neck off the layoff. That was a superb performance given the absence and stretching out in trip is a big positive. With race fitness now on her side, she can make it second time lucky in North America.
4:52 pm Belmont Park (Race 9) – Shamrocket 7/5
He’s won just three of his 19 career starts, but this son of Tonalist is very classy and should have too much for this field if running near his peak. He gained his most recent victory at Belmont back in May, albeit in Allowance company, but he has reached the show in three stakes races subsequently. That includes a close third in the Grade 2 Bowling Green and this trip should bring out the best in him. He stays extremely well and it’d be disappointing if he couldn’t return to winning ways in a race that will be run to suit.
