Horse Racing picks for Aqueduct race track on Sunday, January 23: Do you believe in Magic Circle?

Horse Racing

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Sunday, including at Aqueduct race track. We have been in fine form with our picks for a long time, up 249.45 units dating back to August 5.

Here are 4 runners we expect to perform well today. It’s time to dive in and discuss these potentially profitable plays.

1:48 pm Aqueduct (Race 4) – Oxana 5/1

Winning three of her six career starts, she was far from disgraced in a pair of stakes starts in the autumn. Most recently, she returned to winning ways with a gutsy six-furlong victory in a $84,000 contest, and that suggested she was still progressing. She faces better rivals here, but she can overcome a poor outside draw and should make the lead under Trevor McCarthy. She’s the young pretender in this field and after just six starts, the best is surely yet to come. If they give McCarthy any rope, he won’t be coming back to them late on.

2:18 Aqueduct (Race 5) – Bistrita 5/2

Costing $90,000 as a yearling, this daughter of Gormley made a very promising debut over track and distance in December. Tracking the leader throughout, she stuck to her task well and wasn’t beaten far in second. She will have learnt plenty from that experience and she runs on Lasix for the first time today. With natural improvement, she can surely make it second time lucky, especially from an inside draw in gate two.

3:20 pm Aqueduct (Race 7) – Bella Principessa 4/1

Winning two of her last three starts, Robert Klesaris’s filly has looked like a different beast since graduating at Belmont in October. She quickened away in the style of an improving horse when scoring by six lengths over six furlongs at Aqueduct in December. This is a tougher task, but she’s clearly progressing and she’ll be ridden by Manny Franco. She’ll get a strong pace to aim at and stretched out to seven furlongs, she can notch up another victory.

3:50 pm Aqueduct (Race 8) – Magic Circle 6/5

Rudy Rodriguez’s filly made a winning debut at Saratoga in September and has contested lofty company in three subsequent starts, including the Grade 1 Frizette. She hasn’t added to her tally, but her latest third in the Demoiselle was another fantastic effort and she sets a clear standard in this field. She has the perfect draw in gate one and if she can hold the rail, and the early lead, she won’t be for catching under Jose Ortiz.
