The daughter of Mitole has shown plenty of ability in her 4 starts to date including when runner-up in a $40,000 maiden claiming contest over this course and distance on her penultimate start. Raced from the front when beaten one-and-three-quarter-lengths that day and the return to this trip is a positive having faded when fifth over five-and-a-half-furlongs here subsequently. Steve Asmussen’s filly sets the standard on form here and looks capable of breaking her maiden at the fifth attempt.
1:14 pm Ellis Park (Race 4) – Shell Shock 8/5 (2-star play)
The 6-year-old has registered on the board finishes in 3 of her 5 starts since joining the Chris A Hartman barn from Steve Asmussen following a win in a $30,000 claiming contest over 7 furlongs at Churchill Downs in November. The American Pharoah mare registered a four-and-three-quarter-length third in a $30,000 starter event over a mile here in June and with the drop in trip here in her favor she is taken to register her third career win.
3: 222 pm Ellis Park (Race 8) – American Retro 8/5 (2-star play)
The Ian R Wilkes-trained filly showed good form in her first 2 starts, finishing runner-up in maiden special weight contests at Keeneland and Churchill Downs. The bay filly’s third outing saw her break her maiden when making all the running to score by one-and-a-quarter-lengths in a 7-furlong contest at Churchill Downs in early June. The selection comes into this on the back of a 49 second 4-furlong work at Churchill Downs and is selected to complete a double.
