Horse Racing picks for Belmont Park and Keeneland race tracks on Sunday, October 17: Robin Sparkles will shine

Scott Spieth atop Silverly Enough wins the eighth race of the day at Tampa Bay Downs.

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Sunday, including at Keeneland race track. We are still in fine form with our plays, having profited 109.95 units dating back to Aug. 5. Here are 4 runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races on Sunday. It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.

3:40 pm Keeneland (Race 6) – Competitive Saint 5/2

He’s not the easiest to predict, but this son of Competitive Edge is classy on his day, going close in an $80,000 Saratoga allowance race back in July. His most recent start over the same track and distance wasn’t quite at the same level and he’s drawn wide today, but he’ll be suited by a strong pace to aim at and it’s still relatively early days for him. George Weaver has been picking up plenty of winners of late and this could be another for the stable.

3:49 pm Belmont Park (Race 7) – More Graytful 9/5

Brad Cox’s four-year-old had a productive winter when last seen, winning a pair of allowance races at Aqueduct. His most impressive performance was in an $82,000 contest and he takes a sizable drop in grade on return from the layoff, contesting claiming company for the first time in his career. He does have a sizable absence to overcome, but recent morning work at Belmont has been very positive and drawn well in gate four, he should take all the beating at a lower level than he’s used to.

4:21 pm Belmont Park (Race 8) – Robin Sparkles 2/1

Deadly consistent and has won seven of her twelve career starts, going close in the Grade 3 Caress at Saratoga back in July. She was most recently seen at Laurel Park, where she landed an allowance race in very comfortable fashion. Despite stepping up in grade, she remains the one to beat for Bruce Brown, having won the Mount Vernon at this level back in May. Winning four of her six starts at Belmont, a return to this venue will make her very tough to beat under Jose Ortiz.

4:44 pm Keeneland (Race 8) – Navratilova 8/1

A dual winner in her career thus far, she’s been aimed high since winning her Ellis Park debut back in August 2020. In fact, she’s been aimed solely at stakes company, winning the Tepin at Churchill Downs in June. Two subsequent starts have been well below that standard, but she now drops into allowance company for the first time and as a front-runner, she’s drawn the box-seat in gate one. She does need to prove she has the speed for this trip, but if she breaks well, she could be very tough to pass.
