There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Sunday, including at Belmont Park and Keeneland race tracks. We are still absolutely on fire with our picks, having picked 88 winners in our last 212 races while profiting 117.75 units dating back to Aug. 5. Here are 4 runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races on Sunday. It’s time to dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.
3:15 pm Belmont (Race 6) – Royal Flag 5/2
Ending her 2020 campaign with victory in the Turnback the Alarm Handicap at Aqueduct, she’s looked better than ever in 2021. Suffering a narrow defeat in the Doubledogdare on return at Keeneland, she made amends with victory in the Shuvee on her next start. She was given a lot to do in the Grade 1 Ensign at Saratoga when last seen, but she flew home and was beaten just half a length in a much better field than this. Joel Rosario will be coming fast and late on Chad Brown’s mare and with a good trail into the race, she should pick these rivals up late on the class drop.
4:21 pm Belmont (Race 8) – En Wye Cee 8/1
It’s still early days for this son of Declaration Of War, who ended his 2020 campaign with a prominent third in last year’s Knickerbocker. He returned off the layoff ten months later at Saratoga, where he wasn’t beaten all that far by today’s rival L’Imperator despite being badly checked in the stretch. He’s entitled to strip much fitter today and Javier Castellano will be conscious of avoiding traffic problems. With a clearer passage, he can reverse form with L’Imperator and a first graded victory could be on the cards for Todd Pletcher’s charge.
5:15 pm Keeneland (Race 9) – Letruska 4/5
Fausto Gutierrez’s remarkable mare has won 16 of her 24 career starts, including five Grade 1 victories. She has gained three of those top level successes in 2021, latterly in the Ensign at Saratoga at the expense of Bonny South. Making all the running, she never looked in danger and she should readily confirm that form here. She sets a daunting form standard and at her best, none of these rivals can match her. Gate four will be no problem, as she has the early pace to cross to the lead, and she’ll be extremely tough to beat from that position.
5:46 pm Keeneland (Race 10) – Red Danger 7/2
Costing $17,000 at the 2019 sales, this son of Orb was safely held on debut at Saratoga. He’s left that form behind in subsequent starts, however, graduating at the second attempt before edging away late to win the Listed Juvenile Sprint at Kentucky Downs last month. He’s been very strong at the finish over the sprint trips and stretching out to this distance should prompt further improvement. His pedigree also suggests sizeable progress can be expected over this new trip and despite a wide draw in gate ten, he has a leading role to play under Luis Saez.
