There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Monday, including at Thistledown race track. Here are three runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races. Let’s dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.
1:50 pm Thistledown (Race 3) – King Richie +250
After being safely held in three starts at Arlington in 2020, he made the perfect start for Jeffrey Skerrett when winning on Thistledown debut last month. It was an impressive performance, making the running and drawing clear decisively in the stretch. On just his second start for the yard, further improvement should be forthcoming and stepping into a modest claiming contest, he can go back to back.
3:20 pm Thistledown (Race 6) – Cool Iris +350
Gaining five of her six career victories at Thistledown, this mare is a consistent force in course claiming races. She needed the run off the layoff two starts ago and duly built on that performance by scoring with plenty in hand over six furlongs last time. This is a tougher grade, but she rarely runs a bad race and has been drawn well to attack from gate two. Cutting back slightly in distance, she can make her early speed count under Alvaro Hernandez-Lopez.
3:50 pm Thistledown (Race 7) – Carmen Ohio +300
Jeffrey Radosevich’s filly has enjoyed a successful 2021 thus far, winning a pair of claiming races at Mahoning Valley earlier in the campaign. She’s been switched to allowance company for two subsequent starts, reaching the show on both occasions. Most recently, she returned to Thistledown, finishing a clear second-best in today’s grade. An uncomplicated sort, she can use her good draw to land prominently under Luis Raul Rivera before pouncing late on.
