There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Sunday, including at Santa Anita and Belmont Park race tracks. Here are four runners whom we think look to be a class above the opposition in their respective races. Let’s dive in and take a look at some potentially lucrative plays.
4:40 pm Belmont Park (Race 8) – Americanrevolution +300
Costing $275,000 as a yearling, this son of Constitution made a very promising debut at Keeneland last October. Plenty went wrong for him that day, hopping at the start and just as he was making ground in the stretch, he was badly bumped and had to switch. That effort can be upgraded and after a winter to mature, he should be a different proposition here. With natural improvement, he should be graduating at the second attempt with Lasix applied.
5:12 pm Belmont Park (Race 9) – Raging Bull +100
Chad Brown’s charge won the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita last May and was in great form to end 2020, including a close second in the Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland. He was making his first start off the layoff when easily landing the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile back at Keeneland and he can be expected to step forward plenty from that effort. He sets a daunting form standard and drawn in the box seat, he’s going to be very tough to beat.
7:21 pm Santa Anita (Race 7) – Restrainedvengence +250
Race fitness could be the key to this race, with favourite Neptune’s Storm having his first start of 2021. That’s not the case for the selection, who has run well in a busy 2021 campaign thus far. He’s reached the show in his last two outings, including the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile over track and distance. He doesn’t have much to find with Neptune’s Storm on bare form figures and drawn handily in stall two, his sharpness can give him the edge in a tightly contested affair.
8:28 pm Santa Anita (Race 9) – Leggs Galore +300
This filly has been on a remarkable run since graduating at Del Mar last August, winning five of her next six starts. That includes three stakes races, beating race favourite Warren’s Showtime on a pair of occasions, latterly in the Fran’s Valentine over track and distance. She gamely fended off that foe and looked to have plenty in hand at the finish. She’s not drawn the best in stall six, but she should have the early speed to overcome that and looks set to confirm the placings with her old adversary.
