There’s plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America to start off the week, including at tracks like Finger Lakes, Delta Downs, and Will Rogers Downs.
But it is at Louisiana Downs where we turn our attention on Monday, with three runners who look a class above the opposition in their respective races and who it could pay to follow. Let’s dive in…
Hoyam (-110), Race 3, 4:37 p.m ET
Hoyam delivered a fifth-place finish in a seven-furlong claiming event at Delta Downs last month. It was a respectable effort on that occasion, having tracked the pace prior to weakening. This five-year-old can prove hard to beat for trainer Steven Asmussen, as she drops markedly in grade with Joel Dominguez booked for the ride.
Great In Red (-120), Race 5, 5:29 p.m ET
This four-year-old got off the mark at the ninth time of asking when taking a maiden special weight over seven and a half furlongs on turf here earlier this month. She drew clear for success by three and a half lengths that day and is taken to follow up that success, having run well over further in the past.
Summer Tune (-138), Race 7, 6:21 p.m ET
Summer Tune has had plenty of chances to break his maiden, finishing in the first three in four of his 11 starts, including when third at this track earlier this month. The four-year-old registered a good 1:01.60 breeze over five furlongs here subsequently and is taken to provide jockey Emanuel Nieves with a winner.
