Horse Racing picks for Aqueduct and Santa Anita race tracks on Sunday, January 9: Zero Tolerance for losing

Jockey Leslie Mawing atop Highwaytwentyseven (5) wins the second race of the day as the Tampa Bay Downs

There is plenty of great horse racing action to look forward to across America on Sunday, including at Aqueduct and Santa Anita race tracks. We have been in fine form with our picks for a long time, up 246.45 units dating back to August 5 and also up 13.6 units in the last 2 days alone. On Friday we nailed a 10/1 winner and on Saturday we picked 3 winners in 5 races with no horse placing worse than 3rd!

Here are 4 runners we expect to perform well today. It’s time to dive in and discuss these potentially profitable plays.

3:20 pm Aqueduct (Race 7) – No Burn 4/1

William Morey’s gelding arrives in excellent form, winning two of his last three starts. Graduating with victory at Belmont in October, scoring at the fifth attempt, he bounced back from a flop on course debut at Aqueduct to score easily in starter allowance company. Eased down in the closing stages, he was far better value than the winning margin suggests. He’s still totally unexposed and has the best draw of all in stall one. If getting away sharply, he could be very difficult to catch in the stretch.

3:50 pm Aqueduct (Race 8) – G Munning 8/5

Costing $275,000 as a two-year-old, this son of Munnings created a huge impression when scoring over six furlongs at Aqueduct in November. Despite being bumped at the start, he made all the running, turning away a persistent challenge in the stretch with ease. He can be expected to take a big step forward from that promising debut and given the figure he produced on debut, there wouldn’t need to be much improvement for the extra half a furlong for him to remain unbeaten.

4:20 pm Aqueduct (Race 9) – He’s Got It 6/1

Totally unfancied in the market for his six-furlong Aqueduct debut, he brushed aside those odds to finish a running-on third. He made plenty of ground in the stretch, hinting he’d improve exponentially for both the experience and stepping up in trip. He gets the latter here and he also runs on Lasix for the first time. There is little on the figures between him and morning line favourite, so the odds disparity is surprising, and there’s plenty to like about his chances.

6:35 pm Santa Anita (Race 7) – Zero Tolerance 5/2

Preference is for the young pretender in the field, with Ruben Alvarado’s filly having the most scope for improvement. She broke her maiden at the second time of asking, adding the Unzip Me at Santa Anita on her next start to make it 2/3. She yielded late in the Grade 3 Autumn Miss when attempting the hat-trick and cutting back in trip predictably helped at Del Mar last time, winning comfortable in allowance company. She’s worth another go at Grade 3 level and back up at six furlongs, she can improve past her main rivals.
