The Olympic Games is the pinnacle of many sports and while that’s not quite the case where golf is concerned, the men’s competition still went the way of the best in the world on Sunday as Scottie Scheffler produced a sparkling final-round 62 to take gold in Paris. Scheffler takes a break as the PGA Tour resumes at the Wyndham Championship, the final event before the FedEx Cup playoffs. It’s last chance saloon time for those on the outside of the FedEx Cup top 70 at Sedgefield Country Club. The Wyndham has been played at Sedgefield, a tree-lined North Carolina course, since 2008 and none of the recent winners have been long off the tee – accuracy has been the route to success.

Wyndham Championship golf picks and predictions

Billy Horschel (+2500)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Consistent Korean Sungjae Im has a fine Sedgefield record and is a worthy favorite but it’s almost 3 years since he won on the PGA Tour and preference is for Billy Horschel, who makes his first appearance since a gutsy runner-up finish at the British Open.

Horschel, who sits 27th in the FedEx Cup list, has posted 4 top-6 finishes in his last 7 Wyndham starts, including when 4th behind Lucas Glover last year after a run of poor form. His 2024 results, including a title at the Corales Puntacana Championship and a share of 8th at the PGA Championship, make for much better reading.

Davis Thompson (+3500)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Davis Thompson became a PGA Tour winner with a dominant 4-shot triumph at the John Deere Classic last month and there is every chance the Georgia man can quickly follow up. Thompson produced respectable efforts in the Scottish Open and the British Open, making both cuts despite a lack of links experience, but he should be much more at home on a tree-lined US track.

TPC Deere Run bears similarities to Sedgefield and Ryan Moore, JT Poston and Glover have all won both the John Deere and the Wyndham. Thompson could add his name to that list having finished in the top 2 in 3 of his last 7 Stateside events.

Eric Cole (+7000)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Thompson was 22nd in last season’s Wyndham while Eric Cole, who finished 14th, could also better that effort. Cole has struggled to follow up a superb 2023 rookie season but he was 6th at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, 7th at the John Deere and also performed well in Scotland.

CT Pan (+10000)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook and Bet365 at time of publishing.

CT Pan finished 18th at the Olympics and he travels to North Carolina in pursuit of a big week if he’s to make the playoffs. The Taiwanese golfer was a Wyndham runner-up in 2018, a position he also filled behind Thompson at the John Deere. He catches the eye at huge odds.
