This week’s PGA Tour event sees golfers head to Torrey Pines Golf Course, with the Farmers Insurance Open taking place from Wednesday to Saturday to avoid clashing with the NFL Conference Championship games on Sunday. Hideki Matsuyama and Ludvig Aberg are jostling for favoritism in the betting at Torrey Pines, where this event has taken place since 1968. The first two rounds take place at 2 courses – the fearsome South Course and the much easier North Course – before a 36-hole cut and the closing rounds at the South.

An ultra-long ball-strikers’ course, the South demands both power and precision and its roll of honor is littered with star names – no more so than Tiger Woods, who counts the 2008 US Open among 8 Torrey titles. Let’s get into my expert picks for the Farmers Insurance Open, while you can also find out our golf picks for EVERY PGA Tour event this year.

Farmers Insurance Open golf picks and predictions

Ludvig Aberg (+1200)

Odds available at Bet365 at time of publishing.

The withdrawals of Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa open the door for Ludvig Aberg to step up and win a 2nd PGA Tour title at a venue where his tee-to-green class is a big asset. The 25-year-old Swede battled through a knee injury throughout 2024, undergoing surgery after the Tour Championship, but he returned to finish 17th at the RSM Classic, then he placed 6th in the Hero World Challenge and 5th in the Sentry. Despite his injury, Aberg still posted 8 top-10 finishes last season, including at the Farmers, finishing 9th on debut behind shock winner Matthieu Pavon. He looks a huge contender for this title.

Max Homa (+3500)

Odds generally available at time of publishing.

Aberg’s biggest challenge could come from Max Homa, who has not been at his best over the last few months but looks overpriced when taking into account his affinity with his home state of California, allied with a pair of promising ball-striking displays at the Nedbank and the Sentry. Homa adores Torrey, where he won in 2023 and was 13th last season, and he’s almost always at his best in the Golden State.

Stephan Jaeger (+6500)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Stephan Jaeger, 3rd in both the Sony Open a fortnight ago and at Torrey Pines 12 months ago, is an increasing presence on PGA Tour leaderboards. He’s well-equipped to handle the South Course and could be a contender.
